Hackathon 3.0: Uttarakhand’s Students & Teachers Invited to Turn Real-World Problems into AI & Digital Solutions — SCERT Uttarakhand blog

State-Level Teacher–Student Innovation Hackathon 3.0

What if a problem in your school, village, town or community could become the starting point of the next useful digital innovation?

SCERT Uttarakhand is inviting students, teachers and educators to participate in State-Level Teacher–Student Innovation Hackathon 3.0, an ambitious innovation initiative focused on transforming real-world problems into practical AI-enabled and digital solutions.

The Vision: From Problem to Solution

Hackathon 3.0 is designed not simply as a competition, but as a state-wide innovation and mentorship ecosystem.

Its vision is:

Every School an Innovation Lab.
Every Teacher an Innovation Mentor.
Every Student a Problem Solver.

Participants will be encouraged to observe problems around them, think creatively and use Artificial Intelligence, Digital Tools, Coding, Robotics, IoT, STEM and emerging technologies to develop solutions.

The innovation journey will follow:

PROBLEM → IDEA → DESIGN → PROTOTYPE → DIGITAL SOLUTION

Building on Hackathon 1.0 & 2.0

Hackathon 3.0 builds upon the experience of the previous two editions of Innovate Uttarakhand.

Hackathon 1.0 established a state-level platform for innovation and introduced teachers and students to design thinking, inquiry-based learning and technology-enabled problem-solving.

Hackathon 2.0 expanded participation, strengthened online registration, mentoring and evaluation, and provided finalists an opportunity to showcase their innovations before an expert jury at SCERT Uttarakhand.

Now, Hackathon 3.0 takes the initiative to the next level by integrating AI, structured mentorship, technical tutorials, prototype development, bootcamps and opportunities for incubation and scaling.

Who Can Participate?

Hackathon 3.0 provides opportunities for students of Classes VI–XII from eligible categories including Government Schools, PM SHRI Schools, Atal Schools, Ashram Schools, JNVs, KVs, NGO-supported and recognised private schools.

Participation opportunities also extend to teachers of Classes I–XII, DIET and SCERT faculty, SIEMAT, National/State Awardee Teachers and other eligible/invited categories, as provided under the programme guidelines.

What Kind of Problems Can You Solve?

Ideas can address real challenges across a wide range of areas, including:

Education & Smart Learning • Artificial Intelligence • Agriculture • Tourism • Disaster Management • Road Safety • Health & Hygiene • Environment & Climate Change • Water Conservation • Governance • Rural Development • Robotics • Coding • STEM • Girls’ Education • Women Empowerment • Inclusive Education • Accessibility • School Management • Cyber Safety

Participants are encouraged to identify genuine local problems and propose solutions that are innovative, useful, feasible and scalable.

🤖 Your Idea Comes First!

At the initial stage, participants do not need to submit a fully developed product.

Start by identifying a problem and presenting a strong Idea Synopsis explaining the challenge, objectives, proposed solution, expected impact, scalability and basic work plan.

Promising ideas will move through a structured innovation pathway:

Online Registration → Idea Submission → Screening → Expert Mentorship → Technical Support → Bootcamp → Prototype Development → State-Level Finale → Incubation

The programme aims to engage participants at scale, with up to 10,000 ideas expected through online registration.

Experts Will Help You Build

One of the major strengths of Hackathon 3.0 is its proposed national and international expert ecosystem.

Experts, researchers, educators, AI professionals, developers, STEM and robotics specialists and industry professionals are being invited to contribute tutorials, demonstrations, technical resources and mentorship.

This means that even if you have a great idea but do not yet know how to develop an app, chatbot, AI tool, website, robotics model or digital prototype, the Hackathon learning ecosystem is intended to help you move forward.

The goal is not just to ask:

“What is AI?”

but to enable participants to ask:

“How can I use AI and technology to solve this problem?”

One Digital Innovation Platform

The Innovate Uttarakhand Portal will serve as the central digital platform for the Hackathon journey, supporting features such as candidate login, learning tutorials, problem statements, templates, mentor support, helpdesk services and programme information.

Participants can access the official platform here:

Recognition, Awards & Opportunities

Innovations will be evaluated on important parameters such as:

Innovation • Real-World Impact • Feasibility • Appropriate Use of AI/Digital Technology • Prototype Quality • Presentation • Scalability

The programme envisages recognition for 50 outstanding innovations, with proposed support and awards that may include AI-enabled laptops/tablets, robotics and IoT kits, 3D-printing support, software resources, innovation grants and further mentoring, subject to approved programme provisions.

Promising solutions may also be connected with opportunities for incubation, research, patent support and collaboration with universities, experts and industry.

Innovation Aligned with NEP 2020

Hackathon 3.0 reflects the spirit of NEP 2020 by promoting experiential learning, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, technology integration and multidisciplinary learning.

The ultimate objective is bigger than winning an award.

It is about enabling a generation of students and teachers who can identify problems, investigate them, design solutions, experiment, build prototypes, learn from failure and improve their ideas.

Uttarakhand, Are You Ready to Innovate?

Look around you.

Is there a problem in your classroom that technology could solve?

Can AI make learning more accessible?

Can a digital solution help a farmer, tourist, teacher or community?

Can technology improve road safety, disaster preparedness, environmental protection or inclusion?

That problem could become your Hackathon 3.0 idea.

Don’t just identify a problem.

BUILD THE SOLUTION.
